WD Backup, My Passport Ultra: deleted everything on drive and I think I removed it's software

I was trying to access the files on the drive, couldn't do it. They wouldn't open up as an available format supported by windows, even though I used Windows Backup on this drive. So I said screw it, I'll start over and deleted everything off the drive via WD UI. I went to run a backup and the WD UI is now not recognizing that there is a device connected. When I browse to My Computer, this drive is showing up as an E drive and it no longer labeled My Passport.

Any ideas on how to resolve?

Edit: Also, Windows Backup Utility is not recognizing this drive as a usable source for a backup.

Was DriveLock, with or without a password, in play before all of this happened? I hope WD UI delete was not a format. Testdisk's PhotoRec might be enough to bring back the files. Best to create a usb or dvd boot with testdisk/photorec on it to avoid writing anything on that HD during recovery attempts.
