Hi! I have a less than a month old WD Black 1Tb. And It became unresponsive. It would make my computer hang, and every program unresponsive. I keep my task manager open and there I would see the Disk usage at 100% every time it hangs, even when all of the process show 0MB/s to 0.1 MB/s of disk usage.

I used HD Tune Pro, and the Transfer Rate would go up and down-- it would go down whenever the HDD becomes unresponsive, resulting to a minimum transfer rate of 0.7 MB/s the access time is 19.2 ms! The unresponsiveness sometimes occurs even after booting the PC, during log-in screen and right after.

Please take the time to look at the screenshot of the HD Tune check I did and see for yourself what is wrong with the diagnostics. Thank you so much!

Hi there Alexander Paul,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive. 🙁

I think that the first thing you should really do is to back up the data stored on the drive.

After that, you can test the drive with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=sspbku
It would be nice to run both short and extended tests.

Also, you can post a screenshot of the Health tab, from the tool you've already used.

Something simple as just attaching the drive with different cables to another port will not hurt as well.

Cheers,

Hi!

Thank you for the response! I tried your last suggestion -- I changed the port in my motherboard where the HDD was connected; from 6Gb/s Port 1 to 6Gb/s Port 0 and everything went fine! No more hanging and it's fast once again!

Again, thank you! :)

It's great you've sorted this out.

Is this your OS drive? It's always a good idea to attach your OS drive to port 0.
Not sure if there's something wrong with the SATA port though. In the MOBO's manual, you can check out if there's some difference between SATA ports 0 and 1.

Cheers,
D_Know_WD :)
