WD Black speed issues

Hi everyone ! Hope that someone can help me...

I have issues with the read/write speed on my brand new WD Black 2To
Mobo Asus rog Alpha
I7 6700k

In the attachment you will find the two different results from a cold boot and a warm boot..
Cold boot worst results then when I restart windows, everything is faster with read and write speed..

I'm sorry to hear about your performance issues with the WD Black. I'd strongly recommend you back up all your important data from the HDD somewhere else before you proceed with the troubleshooting. Afterwards, I'd suggest you check your SATA cables and try using a different one for the WD Black. It might also be a good idea to swap the SATA port where it's connected to the mobo. If the performance doesn't improve after that, it might be a good idea to see how the drive will behave in another working system (PC). I'd also suggest you make sure the HDD passes both the QUICK and the EXTENDED tests from the WD Data LifeGuard Diagnostics for Windows. Have you checked your motherboard manufacturer's official website for any SATA controller/Chipset driver updates? While on it, I'd also check if you have the latest BIOS version as well.

I already did everything you mentioned apart from testing the HDD on a another computer and I will soon... Now question, if I have the same issues, what should I do? and if not I understand that it means that the problem is coming from my system, so what should I do?

If you do encounter the same issue with the WD Black on an entirely different PC system, then I'd strongly recommend you check your warranty status. If it's still covered, you should be able to send an RMA request to our Customer Support and get a replacement product soon enough.

If the problem is not present there, I'd suggest you manually reinstall the SATA controller & Chipset drivers for your mobo straight from the mobo manufacturer's official website. And also check up on the BIOS version, I'm not sure if you have done this already or not. If it still doesn't fix the problem, I'd suggest you reset BIOS. Make sure you re-configure all the manual changes you have made to the BIOS interface afterwards, though, since the reset will get them all to their factory default state.

P.S. Try using multiple benchmark utilities as well.

Hi,

Well, I just wanted to let you know that my BIOS was already updated (MAXIMUS VIII HERO ALPHA BIOS 2202) and dirvers for chipset and sata too but something weird happened => I tried to reinstal manualy the sata driver then shutdown then boot my system so the WD Black was running at the good speed for a coldboot so I thought I fixed it... then the next day I booted my computer and again disappointed because the issues appear again...

so yes I did bunch of test with crystaldiskmark 5 and ATTO and always the same results 🙁

Anyway, I'm about to do 2 more test before giving up...

1) Testing the WD black on my system but by a USB adapter
2) Testing the WD black on another desktop computer

It's a brand new hard drive and I would be very upset if I use my warranty for having the same issues...

I will let you know whats going on but if you have anymore ideas that I can try then I would !!!!

I hope you don't get the same performance out of the WD Black on the other system and through the external connection as well. If problem persists, I'm afraid that you won't have any other choice but to replace the HDD. Since it's a brand new HDD, you shouldn't face any issues replacing it through the reseller's customer support with another brand new HDD (depending on their warranty policy).

If the issue is only present on your PC rig, I'd strongly recommend you reseat all the connections to the drive again and swap the cables & HDD position inside.

Keep me posted after you manage to troubleshoot the drive.
