I have a WD external my book that I have given up on recovering and am wondering when you re-format the hard drive to a new enclosure does that get rid of the encryption so in the future if I need to take out my hard drive my data wont be encrypted?

Thanks so much dudes!

Solution
Repartitioning and reformatting in a standard enclosure will remove the encryption. Just be aware that some enclosures are configured with 4KB sector sizes, in which case you won't be able to switch the drive between internal and external use, unless you format it again (and wipe your data).
its the standard AEN encryption that comes on the My Book WD line. theres a lot of threads on here with people trying to recover their my book drives unsuccessfully and resort to reformatting the HD. i just want to know if I reformat to a new enclosure and then disconnect it, will I be left with the same problem as I have now where my data can't be accessed.
