So, I recently purchased a 2tb Black WD2003FZEX Western Digital hard drive from Amazon with the intention of using as my primary hard drive, the one with the Os on it, cloned everything over from its predecessor, boots fine, but on shut down, it makes a really strange spin down noise. I have been searching around, and ran across this video,

Around the 44-45 second bit, volume may have to be up, I hear a sound exactly like the one coming from my hard drive. I am wondering if this is a normal sound for this hard drive, or if I should be concerned.

Thank you for the quick reply, I shall start the replacement process and see how things go from there.

I suspected it wasn't a good sound, but it never hurts to seek help from somebody else.

As a replacement, the defective one was refunded thankfully, should I look into buying the same type again in hopes that one is okay? Or would it be better not to take the chance that another of the same type will be defective, and look for a different drive instead?

Western Digital Makes really good Hard Drives at the moment i have 3 so you should be ok by just getting a replacement. Yours Probably got damaged during shipping, but sometimes they get manufacturing errors pass quality. Is hard considering they make thousands of those Drives a day so a bad one every few thousands is not too bad.

I will do that. Thanks for your help. Damage during shipping wouldn't surprise me in the least, or it could have been luck, or lack thereof, of the draw and it was defective from the start. I will order another and update this thread with the results when the replacement comes in.
