I accidentally dropped my WD My Passport 4T yesterday and could not use it since.

When I plug it into any PC, it is detected and shows up in Device Manager.

However when I try to access it, it goes into a long loop and I could not use it.

When I check it under disk management, it goes into a long loop as well. It shows Connecting to Virtual Disk Service.

Any assistance will be appreciated as I desperately need the files that I backup in the storage.

Thank you.

It's likely that the hard drive is physically damaged given this behavior. I'd try software recovery using something like Recuva and trying to run the drive inside the PC or in another enclosure failing that.

After software and trying to run the drive in other ways, the options are basically a data recovery firm or bust. This can be expensive.

Since these were only backups, don't you still have your originals?

Still have some but not all, I'll try Recuva first. Thanks a lot

Oof, then these weren't backups, but originals. A backup is a second copy; if it's your only copy, then it's just an original moved to a different location, not an actual backup. Having only a single copy of files is extremely dangerous (3, in at least 2 different locations, with at least 1 off-site is considered the minimum for crucial data). Doubly dangerous when your only copy is on a drive that can be easily dropped!
