New passport. Backed up MacBook files on 2010 model. Plugged into 2014 MacBook and continues to restart with error message. Apple Store tech made sure it was the drive and suggested contacting WD. Yes they will replace a new one and no data will be saved. Someone suggested removing the disc from the WD and remount in another case as the problem will invariably be the interface not the disc. Any pointers on how and what to get for a new case? If I ever get my data back I'm getting an ssd , and it won't be WD

I'd suggest you to test the drive's health and SMART status using WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics tool. Run the QUICK and EXTENDED test to see if there's truly nothing wrong with the HDD itself. Here's a link to the software: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=HlNhE6
We always recommend you to have at least 2 identical copies (a backup) of your data to avoid such unpleasant situations. If you decide to go with a professional data recovery company, you can send send your RMA request after you get your data back. Contact our tech support if you have more questions about this procedure: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=HnIEfi

Hope I was helpful. Best of luck!
