WD Passport showing up as cd drive

Hi,

My wd passport is showing up as follows:

CD Drive G: WD Smartware
0bytes free of 614MB
UDF

In Disk Management is says:
Disk 1 unknown 465.11GB Not Initilazed, 465.11GB Unallocated.

At the top in Disk Management is says:
WD Smartware G, UDF, Healthy (Primary Partition)

Is there anyway I can find my files?

are you sure you don't have a Smartware CD in the CD-Rom drive.

what is the size of the Passport?

is it for Mac or PC?

are you using a Mac or PC computer?

Does the WD's "Data Lifeguard" software see it and does it pass tests?

Thanks for responding. The passport is 500GB and it is for PC. I am using a PC

Disk1 should be your Passport drive which shows as not initialized.

do not format the drive or you will loose the data.

have you tried the drive on a different system?

the G: seems to be a CD-Rom drive. Does the system have a CD-Rom drive? do you have a CD in it?

Yes, I have tried it on another system and the result is the same. There is no CD in the CD-Rom drive.

Data Lifeguard is WD's software for it's drives. found on the WD.COM site

Ok, when I tried to run the Data Lifeguard it only gives me serial number, size and then says "not available" :-(

I really hope I have not lost all my files.

I am going to recommend you get "Hirens boot CD" there are many tools on there that can help Find and fix your partition so you may be able to recover your files. If you do use Hirens boot CD use the mini XP option.

You may also want to check if the drive is still under warrantee and be looking to get a replacement.

Thank you. Will give it a try. I already got a new external drive but really need to get the files off the other one.
