Hey,

Anyone got any experience of WD Red Pro disks in a small home NAS?

I've looked around a lot for specifics on noise and reliability for WD Pro disks in smaller arrays and haven't found anyone who's either tested it or has some valid stats.

How much louder are Red Pro disks than the standard Reds really on idle/active? I'd be using 2x 6TB Red Pros in a Synology DS916+ and I know Red Pro's are designed for larger arrays etc etc, but it wouldn't be damaging or performance limiting using 2x Red Pro's in a home NAS than standard Reds surely? NAS would predominantly be for streaming/transcoding but would use for other things.

I'd still get the performance increase, and in terms of actual money, increased power draw is negligible, but if they're really noisy then I'd probably give it a miss.

Seems to me like buying Pro's is a no brainer even in a small home NAS if you don't mind spending more and I've not found any complaints so far of them being unbearably loud?

Appreciate any thoughts.
