In my country, the WD Caviar Black 1TB run for those prices in the title.
~US$44 for the Caviar Black RE4 & ~US$75 for the regular one.
(Obviously im not in the US. I converted the prices to USD for convenience)

Not sure if this has been asked before, but anyways..

I guess what i'm asking is that, should i buy the one for the server/enterprise? Since it's so much cheaper.
Now the thing is I dont want to raid and obviously, it will be for desktop.
Are there any downsides to using the RE4? Anything i should know if i decide to use it?
Any info or explanations (e.g. why or why nots, etc) appreciated.

Hey there, Chalce.

The RE4 drive is an older model and it's a SATA II drive compared to the WD Black drive which is a SATA III HDD. From what I can see in the link that you've posted, they are practically the same price (if this is the place you plan on buying them from). If you don't plan on going for a RAID configuration and you want the most you can get out of your HDD in terms of performance and reliability, I'd go for the WD Black drive if I were you. On the other hand if you need a general usage everyday drive, I'd suggest that you take a look at the WD Blue drive instead of the WD RE4 WD1003FBYX. You can check out the features of those drives here:
WD Black
WD Blue

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions whatsoever.

Ah right, i totally didnt see that.

But what im asking is that, if i were to buy one of those in non-raid settings and/or regular desktop would it be fine? would it be detrimental in any way?

On a side note,
i usually buy the black regular ones, and people generally recommend them too.
But, assuming the same cache size; rpm; capacity; etc, what are the differences between the black and the blue one?

BTW the blue ones sell for around ~US$49 in where i am. (Again, prices converted for convenience)

And no im not buying from newegg :)

You should be OK even if you decide to go with the RE4 drive as a general usage HDD. There shouldn't be any issues because of not being in a RAID configuration, even though this is what it's designed for. So this is still an option, if you think it suits you better.
As for the differences between the WD Blue drive and the WD Black drive, those are mainly the features, which make the WD Black HDD a higher performance drive compared to a the WD Blue HDD, such as:
having a dual-core processor chip
StableTrac Technology (for 2 TB and larger models) - you can check it out in the features section in the WD Black link from my previous post.
passes a lot more strenuous and aggressive internal testing over a longer period of time in comparison to a WD Blue drive
it has a 5-year limited warranty
Basically the WD Black drive is designed with more data processing power to handle heavier tasks and it has increased reliability.
