WD1003FBYX not recognized by computer either internal install or external

I bought a 1TB WD1003FBYX WD hard drive with the thought of using it as a 2nd internal drive in my Acer desktop (running Win10). When I tried to install the drive, it wasn't recognized by the computer...tried 2 different SATA ports, and it never appeared. Called the seller, they sent out another one, thinking the first might be DOA. On the off chance that my computer wouldn't recognize a 2nd internal HDD, I bought an Orico SATA 3.0 external caddy as well. Tried the 2nd drive internally, no luck. Tried both drives in the external caddy-the system sees the caddy, but not the drive. When I go into device manager, the caddy is listed under disk drives, but when I right click on the caddy and select properties, the HDD isn't showing under "volumes". I can click on "populate", and some info about the drive will show-it recognizes the size of the drive, but not the type, and it's showing as "not initialized". Both HDDs do the exact same thing.

Am I missing a step here, or did I possibly get a PAIR of dead drives?

Solution
Hello... You need to give your OS permission to use it... Computer-manage-Disk Management, Right click, the graphic below for "mark partition active" or other needed drive tools.

That fixed it. I've got one of them working in the external caddy now. I'm going to try to get the other one to work internally.

Thanks!
