OMG I'm so stoked!!! I am actually more excited to hear about the new source engine than any other release this year.
And think about this. If its not Half life 3, they are letting down SO MANY people. I think they pretty much know that people expect them to pull out the big guns. I have faith in Valve to not let us down.

I hope HL3 doesn't just turn out to be HL2:Ep3 turned into a full length game. I enjoyed HL2 and the added episodes but I've kind of had enough of the HL2 story and the whole Eastern European gameplay area. I enjoyed the setting of the original Half Life more.

SE2 would be amazing! And if that's the case, then I have very high hoped for HL3 being in the works.

Wow, a new Source engine would be fantastic! These guys always create great products, it'll be interesting to see it in action if the rumor is true ;).

The promised Mac OS & Windows simultaneous games releases probably meant that they had to go back over a lot of the engine code. Just finished a re-run of HL2 inc. Eps. 1 and 2 on the Mac and it was every bit as good as when I played under Windows. Nah, better, cos it was on a Mac.

[citation][nom]deathmustard[/nom]They have said the suprise is about portal 2. So not anything to do with source 2 or half life. http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/109/1095881p1.html[/citation]

Portal is related the half life.So that doesnt rule out half life 3.

What the F are you guys TALKing about? Saying source engine 2 isn't a bigger announcement than portal ! Source engine 2 would be the absolute biggest announcement of all. You know how many games spawned off of se1? This would be epic - it would be a whole new massive outbreak of new games

Source needs an upgrade. If it honestly isn't Source 2, then they have gotten everyone's hopes up and are going in the wrong direction. There is no point in continue releasing games in an industry who's engines are drastically changing at a rapid rate.

Source is outdated, its as simple as that. L4D2 has so many flaws due to limitations of the Source engine, and with this new engine they have so many more engines, assuming its true. HL3, CS2, L4D3, Portal 2, TF3 (This would be out of control), and even whole new franchises like Sci-fi games and a new type of RTS or RPG.

Source 2 would be the best way for this company to move forward and they will be losing a lot of opportunities if they don't announce the Source 2 engine or at least start working on one.

While Source Engine 2 would be huge news, its not nearly as huge as a followup to one of the most groundbreaking game series of all time, Half Life 3... People want to hear about new games at E3, sure the SE2 news would be epic, but if they don't reveal a new game in the works, then people are going to be upset. You can't tease us with Portal 2, only replace that with SE2.

[citation][nom]towely[/nom]If you're still playing Counter-Strike, there is something wrong with you.[/citation]

0.o BLASPHEMY! lol :p no but seriously, Counter-Strike will live forever, just like Quake 2 and Half-Life. They are classics. I still play all three of those fairly regularly

Holy hell I hope so! If this really is their big secret, Valve is about to thrust gaming to the next level! It's gonna be Half-Life 2 excitement all over again for me!

[citation][nom]spikey_monkey[/nom]If it is Source 2 I pray it follows in the footsteps of the first Source engine. In my opinion Source rivals the scalability of Blizzard's creations. It's simply amazing how well my ancient computer could run HL2, CS:S, DoD:S and TF2.[/citation]

Maybe it'll have full DX11 support as well for those that want to pump up the graphics too. My new guess is, a completely new game under the new engine, or HL3 under the new engine. Really, with all the denials, what else could it be...except Plants vs Zombies 2...with DX11

Stop asking for TF3! TF2 is beautiful as it is. At the very best they should release the "hidden" ultra hi def textures, but those can be unlocked with the console.

well i hope that if it HL3 or new game it will have more content in it cause games are pretty much "same old" with better graphic...

I hope we get more interaction with environment, new moves and such.....

getting closer and closer to a certain realism.

It would make more sense to release the next Half Life as a full sequel given how much time its taken, and the fact that another episode on the dated Source Engine would just be prolonging the inevitable. Might as well kick it off with a bang.

My guess is they will be announcing their large project with newly acquired IceFrog from DotA. They recently hired him a year or so back and they have been working on a new IP, I'm not sure if it will be DotA related or not. IceFrog recently said he will be able to talk more about the new IP from Valve in an upcoming event. It might just be coincidence but it seems like it'll be the most likely announcement. The new source engine would be pretty awesome too though.
