There are other Ryzen CPUs as well. The 96/700X are extremely competitive with 14th Gen in gaming performance.
They are, vs a 14600K, they are almost 100 more here in UK for basically the same performance, but the 14600K is the big thorn in their side just because of pricing and the fact the issues with silicon degrading is gone (Helps if you know what you are doing too).

Both CPU's are excellent and great for high-refresh unless you own a 4090 - 5090.

I doubt many people with RX 7900 XT or above performance are using 1080P screens.

Both the Intel chip and AMD ones in the example I? have posted here can match each other almost always, one is cheaper up front but depending on use may cost more in electric, depending on how long you keep the CPU.

Then we factor motherboard cost, what else the person is using, today we have an excellent range to choose from both sides.

Everything good is ludicrously priced. Have you bought eggs lately? 😂

Yeah, uhm, I doubt people need 4090-5090 For QHD res with some high-refresh in the latest games.

For you personally, sure the best is the best. For me the best is the best too, but the best is not always the right choice for everyone, since best is also a very slippery subjective slope.

In more recent benchmarks the 9700X has pushed further away from the 14600k but the 80 Quid difference in cost is a bit harder of a pill to swallow. In the one I linked the 9700X is +8% average FPS, +15% in low FPS, +3% in ST, and +6% in MT work. Overall the 9700X is now basically as fast in gaming as a 14900k but will lose in MT workloads pretty easily. However, as I said for 80 Quid the additional 5-10% is well outside the price/performance curve at 40% more expensive. Where you will see a difference is in TDP with the 9700X being 65W (88W PPT) vs 14600k 125W TDP with 181W Max Turbo TDP. That means I can use a cheaper or smaller cooler and keep my system cool or extremely quiet. I ran a CPU only y-cruncher benchmark that pegged my 9700X at 100% load for over an hour and the CPU never went beyond 65C (in a case designed to be quiet so not as much airflow as other cases) with my Scythe Mugen 6 Dual Fan HSF. Sure that cooler is WAY oversized for the CPU but the 14600k would easily have been in the 70sC or higher.

The fact we can argue for and against both sides, means today you have an even sharing and no company is really offering bad CPU choices, just as usual consumers getting hyped on their own purchases like to push for their end.

Glad we could establish this kind of discussion.

AMD offers the best for game performance, if you have the massive wallet to make a sensible build that will utilize the 9800X3D or 9950X3D's gifts.

I agree but Intel needs to step up their game or they will continue to lose market share. At some point that will start to impact executive bonuses and options, maybe they will get serious then.
