i think this page is in some dire need of an opera user.
and I want to react to the post of Alcalde,
He's right about Opera and his memory problem. Also about the fact that this is not the bin (other browsers have something resembling it, though - personally - a much more efficient bin then opera who indeed cashes more or less everything), and not speeddial (though the preloading of speeddial websites is super and spares me a lot). arguments like giving memory back when needed or mem is there to be used are kind of ridiculous.
Opera has a memory issue since 9.5, and forum posts about these issues have been there since 9.5, and receiving attention from Opera since 9.5.
so comes my second point. Why do you believe there is such a hostile mood on the opera forums towards real problems? There are some people that are indeed protecting Opera without being critical, but the amount of people there to bitch on Opera in favour of Chrome or Fx with no other reason then to bitch kinda created that. 4 years ago, when Opera removed the commercials, people of Fx first and then Chrome came to the Opera forums and started an immense amount of troll posts, posts how they were going to switch, posts on everything that is wrong, vague posts on unlikely bugs.
after 2 years of that, indeed, moderators just started deleting the more obvious trolls of people not using Opera and who came solely to just irritate people or get people to use other browsers or those who were really complaining about it. and i believe today, opera moderators are still sometimes too gullible with people who are making suspicious complaints about really far fetched bugs.
its just frustrating about people posting about something vaguely wrong, and then spending 80% of their post why they want to go to Fx or Chrome. and still people are very civil towards those. at first i wanted to help them as well, but afterwards you kinda realise that they are just there to be contrary, and not there to have their problem solved. so now I just kinda ignore them, and wish moderator were more active in just deleting them.
However, there is no problem posting about memory issues on the opera forums, just do a search and you'll found countless of people complaining about it (me included, and after 2 years my post is still alive), because it is a problem, and opera recognizes it, and in its Opera Next 12 release states that it will tackle memory issues that have now already results of 7 to 9 % less mem usage. of course, I first want to see it before i believe it (10 was also supposed to deal with memory issues, but had more or less the same problem as 9.5).
one thing that I don't get is how you say Opera is trying to look like Chrome, following Fx extensions, and benchmarks? Speeddial, in-line search, adres bar search, tabs, etc basically everything that is chrome today comes from Opera. Chrome is just a very fast Opera with only a small amount of Opera's features. I don't have an issue with that. Chrome doesn't presume to be the creator of those features, and just sells itself as a very lightweight browser with a minimal amount of features. perfect, and Opera continues to be the trend-setter with many more features that will continue to be used in other browsers like Opera Unite, and Opera Sessions and Opera mouse gestures.
at any rate, about the tests, Opera seriously should see this, and hopefully get inspired to get some serious work done under the hood. they've been spending so much time on features and their extensions that the engine is kinda running on too much gas. Opera 12 seems to promise a lot, but I want to wait and see about that.
