Hello,

I've had this problem for a while with my laptop's webcam, either:
  • it doesn't turn on consistently across softwares; sometimes it would work with Google Meet but not Cheese, sometimes it's the opposite, etc.
  • even when it's on, it doesn't turn on consistently; the light indicator would go on and off back and forth, a video would look more like a stop motion than a video
  • light indicator blinks but no output
  • not detected at all
I'm not sure if it's compatibility issues as it is detected by the OS. Have tried some troubleshooting in the past to no result, hoping to fix this so I wouldn't need to buy an integrated webcam. A quick hotfix that came to mind was to either revert back to Windows or dual-boot just for the webcam (as I recall it worked there), but I'm not too keen on going that route.

Device ID 04f2:b33b Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd

Many thanks!

Solution
Search the package for Ekiga. This use to be called Gnomemeeting. Cheese is not the best one out there.

Here is a link to other options on this link look st the webcam tools.
