[SOLVED] Weird 3080 behavior..

-Trying to pin point this issue..is it drivers? is it HDMI2.1?
Got my 3080 FE installed today. Did the usual uninstall of drivers in safe mode with DDU, installed new drivers no problem.
Main weird thing is the fps in some games. I did some benchmarks and tests in RDR2 with my 2080super before I removed it, I was excited to see the gains of course.. but upon opening up RDR2 post 3080 installation, the game is INSISTING my max refresh rate is 60hz.. I am connected to a Samsung Q60 2019 tv with a native refresh rate of 120hz. It only has HDMI 2.0 so limits 4k to 60hz but 1440p and 1080p run at 120hz. It has no DP.
So now it will cut the frames loose but only if vsync is off (which looks terrible), with it on it locks me at 60hz at 1440p... other games will accurately use the tv's max refresh rate. WHY??

-In Death Stranding weirdly I get like 10-20 more fps with DLSS.20 turned off... with the 2080 super I would get like almost double the fps with it on, and that is of course the whole point of it..

-Another thing is upon start up I now see a little blinking underscore in the top left like usual, but it dashes back and forth between the corner and almost middle of the screen for a good 10 seconds before resuming the normal pace of start up.

-Lastly the GPU usage in any game is only about 20-35% in task manager.. CPU is less than 100% in all cases.

Any ideas as to what is happening? Is this just the cost of early adoption?

You should always start with a full system spec list, so we don't have to ask/guess what you have. Do include make and model of PSU please.

Task manager is an awful indicator of usage. Do not trust it. Use specialised software to monitor usage/temps like hwmonitor, msi afterburner, etc.

Do you have the latest gpu drivers, windows updates? Do you use the correct cables to power the gpu? Are they daisy chained?

I have an LG C9 65” and wanted to run 4K 120Hz but it won’t work. Also even 4K 60Hz was unreliable and looses connection. Upon reading all the LG TV’s with HDMI 2.1 are having issues with the RTX3000 series. Having contacted LG support I am told that a firmware update will be available for my TV by the end of November addressing these problems. Fortunately for me my main gaming is done on a 1440p 144Hz monitor but it’s still annoying that part of my reason for the 3080 was running 4K 120Hz. I have seen other reports of 3000 series having issues with other TV’s but didn’t pay attention to the models. Again they need firmware fixes to resolve.

was using EVGA Precision X1 and HWmonitor, noticed I was topping out at 65c on the 3080 FE, that seemed cool for it, so I opened TM to see usage %

Hwmonitor can show the usage and is far more reliable than task manager.

As you've already said, it's probably related to the hdmi 2.1 and the new firmware will probably solve the issue. Meanwhile, try benchmarking the gpu a bit more using your other monitor to see if there are any other issues.

As for the performance issues please try running userbenchmark and share the public link to the results.

I did read yesterday a thread where their 3080 underperformed until they set their BIOS to UEFI only.
UserBenchmarks: Game 186%, Desk 100%, Work 171%
CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K - 93.9%
GPU: Nvidia RTX 3080 - 203.4%
SSD: Samsung 970 Evo NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB - 303.6%
SSD: Samsung 860 Evo 1TB - 117.3%
SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 500GB - 106.6%
SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 500GB - 121.1%
SSD: Samsung 860 Evo 1TB - 124.1%
HDD: WD Blue 1TB (2012) - 96.2%

I will try it on my normal monitor tmrw and see if the issues replicate. It is native 1440p gsync. I'll have to undo some cable management to get it over by my tower.

So on my gsync monitor running through DP it works fine with RDR2, pushing whatever frames it can. Something weird is going on with Nvidia Control Panel.. I have had to make a custom resolution to set the tv at 1440p 120hz and it usually sticks unless I update the driver. Now it disappears on reboot and sometimes between changing resolutions..
