This started a couple of weeks ago, whenever I log in to my desktop the background disappears for a few seconds till I'm fully logged in.

So I turn the computer on till the time is being displayed, which my background photo is showing correctly whenever the time is shown.
I hit any random key to be able to type in my password and the background just turns to red (which is my chosen accent color)
then after I log in the background photo is back.

I've also tried switching background photos and it doesn't make any difference, it still does this.
It never did this before and it also doesn't do it on any other Windows 10 computer I own and I don't know why. Is this a bad sign or should I just keep ignoring it?

see if this makes any difference

right click start button

choose powershell (admin)

copy/paste this command into window:

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth

and press enter

Then type SFC /scannow

and press enter

Restart PC if SFC fixes any files as some fixes require a restart to be implemented

First command repairs the files SFC uses to clean files, and SFC fixes system files

SFC = System File Checker. First command runs DISM - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/what-is-dism?view=windows-11

its strange, I can only find this which is similar but 7 years old = link

Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

It doesn’t delete anything, it just stops non Microsoft programs running with start. Easy to reverse.

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.

I figured it out, there's an option to show the background on the sign in screen that I didn't have switched on. I don't know if this was recently added or what since I've never seen it before, but Microsoft has got to stop changing things like this.
