Hi all im here because im out of ideas.. my mates pc is acting very strange he cleaned the inside of his computer the other day and ever since he has been getting alot of issues. He did not unplug or remove any device he simply removed all the dust. Heres a few of the issues he is having

Nearlly every reboot/startup he is presented with windows boot repair even after running it sevral times and doing fixmbr /boot and /rebuildbcd etc

His audio sometimes lags/stutters when playing music or videos in flash player and windows media player along with cpu spikes

His pc spikes when ever he clicks his middle mouse button or scrolls down on websites

We have tried unpluging all usb devices and all sound device we have also reformated the drive 3 times once with active kill disk we have ran rootkit and anti virus scans we also have run memtest and diskcheck and also ran sfc /scannow and also updated all drivers.

However his pc works fine no system errors or freezes or crashes just high cpu spikes from the mouse and audio and he has to run bootup repair after every reboot. His pc ran fine befor he claned his system he dident make no changes to any hardware or update anything he also says he has not knocked anything so im confused to what it could be. Could it be the PSU or Motherboard? Because he did have some issues with his cd rom also burning stuff to dics. He is running Windows 7 Pro x64 his pc is around 10 years old but it was fine befor he cleaned it im unsure of what could cause this as i have ran nearlly everything in the last 2/3 days.

Solution

First, try reseating all RAM modules. Then unplug and replug all connectors (power/SATA). Its possible that something here might have been nudged and loosened, I've faced this myself.

Also, how did he remove the dust? Compressed air? I hope he didn't use a vacuum cleaner - they can generate static electricity due to the air movement.

He did use a vacuum i think. The pc gives no signs of errors just the cpu spikes from mouse is a bit strange. HD tests and memory tests have passed. I will get him to check all cables and reconnect wires when he is up. Just hope it works if not then he probs killed it with the vacuum cleaner. After this post he did have trouble with the mouse the razer synaps wouldent detect the mouse even tho it was pluged into the pc and working, also when he unpluged the mouse the pc booted up a little quicker because when he boots up now that bootup repair dont pop up he is on a black screen for 1-2minutes befor the pc loads.

Hello

This is my PC Seaner86 had posted about, I'm on my PC again at this moment, no idea how long for.

Firstly it's not quite 10 years old (feels it though lol) more like 5 years old but graphics card and ram bit more recent 1-2 years old.

Any ways, this isn't the first time I've cleaned it and it's normally ok but I didn't use a Vacuum, I used my anti static pc brush and cleaned PC as I have done before. I have now reseated RAM as you suggested (didn't even cross my mind because mem test etc was saying every thing was fine, not being a complete novice when it comes to PC's I should have known to check any way.) and though I can't be sure and it's a little bit slow booting up, it did boot up first time and I now have YouTube playing a video and I can scroll and use middle mouse button and no stuttering or lag, same if I play music in a media player, so it appears the RAM was the issue but I will update in here whether this lasts or if it's just a coincidence.

Thanks to Arunphilip. PROBLEM SOLVED
