Question Weird external HDD behavior ?

I have a laptop HDD inside a 2.5 enclosure and it worked great on my tower pc, no issues. But for a series of reasons my main computer right now is my laptop where it started to show a weird issue. When I connect it directly to one of the USB ports it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting, but when I connect it through a unpowered USB hub it works normally, no issue.
Does anybody know what might cause this?

Info:
HDD enclosure: Orico 2189U3
HDD: Toshiba MQ04ABF100
The laptop: HP 25es-eq0009nq
The laptop has USB 3.0, I know this by the 9 contacts in the port as it is still colored black.
Both the hub and enclosures are USB 3.0
Running win 10 19045.3693

Try a different usb 3 cable.

You mean port? I tried them all, if the cable was at fault wouldn't it behave the same through the hub? Also it is not a usual USB cable it is USB 3.0 micro-B to A, I don't have another one

Your call...... I'd swap it out just to get it out of the mix they are not that expensive.
