Weird gpu spikes on msi afterburner?

So when playing games, for instance skyrim, afterburner shows these weird spikes

from 0%-100% that occur roughly every 8-10 seconds. Game preformance is fine, no fps losses or lag and the temps are fine (stock cooler). Just curious why do these spikes occur on afterburner even though i am fairly sure my gpu isn't really spiking like this.

afterburner is having trouble recording the gpu usage, it is not actually doing that.

Any ideas on how to get afterburner to show the right gpu usage values?

making sure it is up-to-date is the only thing you can do to try to fix that. it also depends on the game you are running, some games report the gpu usage well, others bad.
