Weird Graphics card problem.

I just recently installed a new 7850 in my computer. When I did the sound went out. I tried everything to fix it. New drivers, deleting old ones, switching default sound channel. Nothing. But my old card is a 7850 too. (older, and isn't working well which is why I replaced it). I put it back in and my sound starts to work again. I don't know why, any help appreciated.

Did you go to control panel/sound and be sure that your speakers were still set as default. Installing the CCC for AMD cards sometimes has the bad habit of making the HDMI sound the default. Quite often this happens and needs to be reset in CP/Sound.

Yes. I've gone to sound and made sure my sound card was selected. Installing CCC didn't change it btw. It just stopped working. It's just weirding me out. How would the video card mess with the sound card? Like I said. If I use my original card, it works fine. If I use the new one it stops working. I have no clue why though.

Let me see if I have this correct. Your sound device is a pair of speakers plugged into the green jack on the MB. With nothing else done to the system, simply changing cards causes the following...
Old card in the PCIe X16 slot = speakers work ?
New card in the PCIe X16 slot = speakers do not work ?

And control panel/sound is set to default = SPEAKERS? Not a sound card.

I have a sound card plugged in.
So basically everything you just said happens, but with my sound card, not the built in sound in the motherboard.
And yes I've gone into sound and made sure it's on the right channel. But nothing plays.
So you can see why this is a weird problem for me. Only thing I havn't done is change where the sound card is on the motherboard. I'll try that, but shy of that I guess I'll have to buy a new sound card or something.

Just to make sure I just reattached my old graphics card. The sound is working again. How does it happen that a video card can determine if the sound will work? It just doesn't make sense to me.

Could be that by mistake the sound card became a bit loose when you installed the new graphics card ?

Try installing the new graphics card again and ensure the sound card is properly inserted.

Otherwise, try going to device manager and disabling the sound card then enable, try repair, update driver, all options that you can see there try them...

I'm pretty sure the sound card was installed correctly. It registered in my sound devices. I made it default and it appeared to think it was making sound as the volume bar was indicating sound was happening. So I guess it understands that it's making sound but not transmitting it or something? I think I will try reinstalling the card to see if that works though.

Ok I actually just solved it. Was working on it and decided to completely uninstall CCC. Then ran CCleaner. Restarted it and it's working. Well working most of the time. Still has hickups, but it's alright for now. Thanks everyone for the help and ideas.
