Hello,
I've been having an issue with my computer for a while now where I can't play any old game without messing with the settings a lot or patching it, and even then, sometimes it doesn't work. I've bought the Dungeon Siege serie from Steam and I wasn't able to make it work, until I applied a patch called Dungeon Siege Fix by Killah. It seemed to work for a while, I was able to play, then I had a sudden black screen during cutscenes or even usual gameplay. What fixed it was turning the monitor off and on again. I could see the game again, but it went black a few minutes later, making the game unplayable.

I've ran out of ideas, I've done every solution people suggested in every corner of the internet, and nothing can fix this black screen issue.

I included a video to better explain what's going on, maybe someone somewhere has seen this. I apologize for the quality and for my fiddling with the screen button, it's an old model and it has issues... I'm due to replace it soon.

Right but older games are developed with older hardware. They do not include newer instruction sets for newer CPUs or GPUs etc....

This is why some programs only work in specific versions of Windows...

Of course you can play newer games on a newer system without issues. In 10 years if you get a new PC then try to play one of those games you would most likely run into issues also.

It's just how technology works. They can't future proof things if they don't know how future hardware will look like before it's even developed.

The reason that creator made a patch in the first place is so he could patch for future changes that the game devs stopped supporting long time ago.

I just tried setting the resolution to 800x600, I got to the menu and it lasted a little longer than usual but it went right back to a black screen with lines, just like in the video. I don't understand, because I can play newer games without problem.

Honestly, I don't think you will find a solution expect for a hotfix someone made or to go use an older computer from around the area of the game.
