Hey!

I'm usually fixing my own stuff but this one is harder than I thought.

Specs:
- mobo: asus m4a89gtd pro usb3
- cpu: amd phenom ii 1090t
- psu: msi 850w gold
- gpu: nvidia gtx 260
- ram: 2 sets of kingston (dont have the specs but both are 2x2gb sticks)

Overall an older system but I'm not ready to fully upgrade it considering the price of new systems.

The issue:
When booting, I'm getting a blank screen. Monitor detects signal but nothing happens. So by that I mean no post. Unplugged everything from the system and kept bare minimum (mobo/cpu/ram). Same issue...
I've been having trouble during the last few years, it would do that once in a while a rebooting it couple times made it works.

So I changed some parts to replace in case.
Swapped the mobo for an asus m5a79 le 2.0
- this mobo now show me the splash screen, one beep, then blank, no response from the system
Swapped the cpu (on m5a) withba fx8350
- no changes
Swapped psu
- no changes
Swapped ram (g.skill single channel ram, 4x4gb)
- no changes
Swapped gpu (got an older quaddro card)
- no changes

It shows the splash screen, beep, then everything turns into a blank screen and no response at all.

All disks are unplugged. Every usb accessories are unplugged. No case usb headers plugged. Really bare system.

I've tried it without ram. Gives me the long beep and 2 short ones for the "no ram found" code. Tried one single ram and moved it around in the 4 banks. Same.

I can't access bios, as soon as it beeps, it freezes.

With everything switched I should atleast be able to boot the damn system but nothing.

Does anybody have an idea?

Thank you

for the 1st motherboard:
replace the cmos battery with a new one, should work after that

for the 2nd:
replace the cmos battery with a new one, try booting,
if it´s not working, switch to the 1090t CPU, the 8350 might not be compatible with this board´s BIOS. Update the BIOS with the 1090t to support the 8350 if possible to flash
the 8350 can be very problematic with 970 boards because of its TDP

have a look at the motherboards for blown capacitors like:

i tried the 1090t on the m5a. Was a no go.

I tried to swap batteries with new ones on both boards.

I'll check the caps again. I've really looked at them very quickly and they were looking alright. I'll double check just to make sure.

  • 1 Beep - Refresh Failure. Reseat/replace memory, troubleshoot motherboard.

That's the ram I installed to replace the other one. If I try to seat them more, ill go thru the board lol.

All caps on both boards seems fine. Double checked everything. Got both boards out of the case to test. Same issie
