Hi everyone,

I was trying to host a dedicated Valheim server, and it wasn't gonna well, I forgot some steps, and it wasn't working. I ran the server file as administrator, and then my connection just cut out on my Ethernet. Wifi works fine, I tried a different cable and port and it's still not working. I've never seen something like this and I'm at a bit of a loss here besides just getting a PCIE Ethernet card but like I don't get why my main board one isn't working anymore. I deleted all the inbound rules and port forwarding on my router and firewall, still nothing...

Please help me 😭

Forgot to mention, my PC says that the Ethernet is connected to the Internet but it's not loading anything connected to the Internet

Gotcha. I didn't think of set a static IP, but do you really need to? I'm giving up on hosting a server lol just trying to fix my Internet

When you host a server you must have a static IP or your port forwarding rules might not be sending the data to the right internal IP if it would change.

Try IPCONFIG /all.

You likely will see it is connected which means the hardware is fine. You may have messed up the ip setting. If you are not going to run a server make sure you are set to dhcp and you get IP from your router.

The connection is still set to auto. DHCP is also on. I think the port may have just fried or something. Cause all I messed with on my internet was the port forwarding and I removed all that. I'm just wondering how this Valheim server just killed my ethernet port...

I doubt it broke the ethernet port. Almost all the function is in hardware and can not really be changed. It could I guess be a driver bit even that is unlikely.

The simplest way to test the hardware is to get a linux boot image that runs off USB stick. Most these images run completely off the USB and do not touch your disk. They are somewhat limited but they come with a browser preloaded so it is easy to test if your internet works.

You could I guess just reload windows instead if you have not installed much other software. You might end up doing this anyway if the linux image works and you can not find what setting is messed up in windows.

How would I go about updating my drivers? And where can I find the boot image?
