I have a Dell vostro 1015 on windows 10. and it was very fast until about a week ago. It started slowing down, so I decided to reset it. Fresh install of windows, working great!! For 10 minutes... It started to dramatically slow down/, to the point where it was unusable! I decided to reboot it. Same thing, it has been doing this working for a short period of time and then stopping. I decided the hard drive might be damaged, so I replaced it, it was slower for some reason but not too slow, so I was OK with that, and then it happened again! It slowed down, and was completely unusable! I don't know if this has got anything to do with it but the laptop seems to be hotter than usual, any ideas? Thanks!

Solution
Heat can certainly cause issues. I immediately thought "bad HDD" but obviously you replaced it. This new HDD is a known good drive I assume? Use a can of compressed air to blow through the CPU heatsink/fan exhaust vent (do this with the machine powered off). Also confirm that the CPU fan is running as well.

It sounds like a heat issue. So it's either dust etc build up in the laptop, and it needs a good clean, or it needs a BIOS update to support Windows 10 and regulate heat.....

There the plot thickens though. I hope it's dust! As per this page: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/vostro-1015/drivers They are not developing Windows 10 updates (so, BIOS being one of the lacking updates) to support the Vostro 1015. If everything was working on your prior OS before upgrading, I would suggest you reinstall the old OS as sacking hardware support for an OS is never going to be a good sign.
