My DVD rom is Pioneer 105(the one that draws discs in instead of using a disc tray),and after one year of using,it doesn't read any dual-layer DVD now(No problem with CDs or single-layer DVDs though). So I opened it up and cleaned its lens using a Q-tip with alcohol, and then it can read dual-layer DVD again. But this brings a new problem:now whenever it's playing a DVD movie, the picture is always shaking and the sound is stuttering(both single and dual layer DVD,but no problem when watching VCD).I tried a number of DVD playing softerwares and the results are same.

hmmms.
I would have to say your dvd drive is on its way out...

VCD's are different to dvd's... VCD's are actually just CD's.

I recently lost a pioneer 106S slot loading drive too, with a very similar cauze.
For about a month my 106S had problems in certain area's of dvd's, continually seeking and trying to reread the data.
Then one day it just refused to read ANY dvd's.
It wouldn't even recognise them... and a drive clean didnt work.
It still read CD's perfectly though.
And of course the drive was 1 year and 1 month old, so i couldnt get it returned under warantee [fronw]

So i replaced it with a liteon.

I think LHGPooBaa is very happy with his LiteOn LTD-165H. Yes, LiteOn DVD drives are inexpensive and great. You can't go wrong with them. I've got myself a LTD-163D for more than 6 months, and I'm very happy with it too.
