weird PSU noise

not sure where to post this but i flicked the switch behind PSU to turn on PC and it made a very loud bang noise (it came from my PC) nothing seems to be broken and i am using the same PC to type this comment not sure what happened but i was thinking something inside my PSU exploded. something with nothing connected to it

also if you think it was a power surge i am using a surge protected power strip

its better to immediately go to an expert and have it checked. Spending 50-70 bucks and getting it checked is far better than roasting the whole system.

well i know i have quality PC parts as pretty much all of them besides the MOBO/GPU/CPU are from Corsair the MOBO and GPU are from Asus and i have th i7 7700K

A loud noise definitely means trouble. As you said, these items are expensive why take the risk.

sorry for late reply but NO the only smell I could smell was that of the PSU when it was brand new still in its box (the smell was not more than it was back then but I do not think it has any noticeable problems)
and my PC STILL works fine
