Hello everyone,

Since I have no idea what is happening I need your help.
My router - Asus RT-N18U isn't able to perform as it should longer then a few days.
I recently bought a 1Gbps connection.
After I initially tested it everything was fine and working as intended, only to notice that after a few days test results showed that my current 1000Mbps connection only works with 100Mbps.
Restarted the router and everything was fine for the next few days. and again, and again, and again.

Any replies will be much appreciated.
Please let me know if any another info is needed, I would also like to mention that I`m using my router for normal browsing, videos streaming to my TV long story short nothing out of the ordinary.

Thank you

Might have to something with a setting called "WAN port speed". I might be set to "auto" on your router. Try setting it to 1000Mbps.

Edit: Upon reviewing the settings for your router, it appears that there is no such setting. If your router is connected to a modem, try looking at the settings there.
Because it is very close to 100m and not some other strange number like 130m I am going to bet some cable has a issue and is dropping back to 100mbit.

These are very hard to find since most consumer equipment makes it very hard to see the speeds the ports are actually running. You likely have 2 possibilities, the one between your computer and the router and the one between the router and the modem.

You could just blindly replace both cable with new cat5e/cat6 cables. There is a chance it is the ports in the equipment that have a issue but that is rare.

Although it would be painful to test since it happens so seldom you could plug directly into the modem to see if it was the router.

Have you tried another known working ethernet cable? The existing cable may have some problem or defect that is inhibiting full performance.

Likewise for any other interim connections: e.g., wall jacks, punch downs, and the wiring in between.

Thus the router drops to 100Mbps but does not recover until the reboot.

Also check the router logs for any errors or messages. Try to identify any events that correspond with the performance drops.

thank you very much for helping
I will try replacing both cables and get back here if I manage to solve it :)
it might take two/three weeks given the weird voodoo thing i have to deal with here :)
