weird short

Can anyone help im building a P4 2.4 Gig system and using a 300 watt
power supply. My problem is that no matter what i do i get no POST
and no beeps. I was using a SOYO p4VGA and changed it twice im using
an ABIT SG-71 my second oneand im still gettin the same problem. Ive
switched memory,CPU's and motherboards can somebody help end this
curse.

Since at least the Soyo board has integrated graphics, plus your having
changed out memory, CPU, motherboards, it would seem most likely it's the
power supply. Is it a generic power supply? If so, replace it. I don't
mean get the same thing sent in exchange but rather a non-generic. A
decent name-brand 300W PSU should power the parts you've mentioned with
typical complimentary parts, but a generic can't be assumed to actually
provide the wattage stated on the label.

Still it's worthwhile going over all the basics, checking cabling and
such, and verifying that the boards aren't shorting out on a case mounting
stud (try them outside of the case), and removing everything except CPU,
one memory module, video (integrated preferribly on the boards that have
it integrated), and heatsink fan(s). Try clearing the CMOS also.

Do the fans come on for a split second when you flip the switch on the back of the power supply?
