The new 50XX GPUs launch in a couple days (not sure of times) and I am going to try and pick one up if I can for my new build. I think I've settled on a 5080 but have no idea what variant or where to get it. I have not seen anything on what's coming out and hope people have some suggestions on what/where to get one. Is this going to be a situation where I have to keep refreshing the page over and over and hopefully get one or what?

Hey there,

It looks like the 50xx series are a bit underwhelming. About 30% increaee in raster performance, with only that and a few tricks separating them from the 40xx.

It might be worth waiting for the reviews first before buying. The AMD 9070 might make sense.

There are no 5080 reviews as of yet, so nobody can really suggest specific model and then there is no idea about availability especially in your region.

Many people who want 5080, would probably have to grab whatever there is in store anyway.

It will be an okay card, for all the bad vibes, it would still be the second most powerful GPU there is for a good year give or take. People are just a bit (rightfully) salty it comes with only 16GB VRAM, which is just silly for a vice-flagship GPU in 2025.

Also, the supposed gains over 4080Super seem to be weak for what is supposed to be new gen card, but that's hearsay until reviews hit in a few days.

Usually I would do this.. I waited for reviews when I was trying to get my wife a 30XX card and ended up waiting almost 1.5 years before I could get one at a none-ridiculous price. Based on history and threads I see here I feel like if I don't grab a 50XX right away I simply won't get one and prices will get insane.

I would be going from a 4690k / 1080 to a 9800X3D and 5080...
I mean that's like no-brainer a huge increase, but is your monitor actually up to task?

Because quite frankly if you're on a good 'ol 1440p, there is little point for 5080 to begin with.

I mean, of course it will be the same all over again here, make no mistake. That's why I'm saying - you aren't going to be having the luxury of chill picking a model. It will all get sniped anyway in like first 10 mins.

ESPECIALLY if you're US based, because Trump just hinted at Taiwan tariffs, which would probably send prices to the moon the soon they are in force.
