I am currently building a gaming pc and am looking for a cpu that can handle games like fallout 4, it has to be an am3+ socket, thanks for any help

FX 8350 is the best current AMD option, and it's not the greatest in certain games like Fallout 4 due to its poor single threaded performance. AM3+ is on the verge of being retired, and you probably shouldn't go for an AM3+ build at this point in time. For Fallout 4, an Intel system with a Core i3 6100 would provide better performance while coming in at a similar price unless Intel CPUs are massively more expensive than AMD equivalents in your region.
well am3+ is what drove me over to intel for my first time ever in like 15 years if that helps any ?? no point buying in to the past today and then I did not see where it work well when in date ? heck my old 939 did a better job with less issue a older haswell build would be far better then any AM3+

but if you got to go AM3+ then a nice 990fx and something like a 8350 would be my call

It is a tricky question. Fallout 4 or Witcher 3 will run perfectly smoothly on FX 4300 ! People here will torn me apart, but it is currently absolutely enough CPU for gaming, as long as the rest of the rig can handle it. I have it since this January, and I had no problem with it in any game. BUT! I am aware of the fact it will get obsolete relatively fast.

There will be people here claiming AM3+ CPU family (and FX 4300 above all) is nearly unusable CPU - that just is not true - it is perfectly enough for gaming... today. But once more it will age quickly. There wont be anything better then current models. No new technologies, no more cores, no higher core performance.

For longterm, AM3+ socket wont provide further development. Yes if you would go in my path and buy FX 4300 , then you can later upgrade into FX 8370 - to get two times more cores (modules). But it won't be anything that would tear asphalt at all - considering it would be some years ahead. For long term AM3+ is not bet choise. It is valid choise in case you either expect to not have high-end performance in following years or you are willing to include new MBD for future CPU upgrade (which in case you would rather go to latest intel socket won't be necessary).

So in case it realy MUST be an AM3+ go into nearly anything - above or including FX 4300 (avoid 9xxx class though unless you own a nuclear powerplant) - it will run CURRENT games. If you want to play FUTURE games on max - do not go to AM3+. Personaly I would advice 8370 - its reasonably top the socket can offer, as long as it really has to be AM3+.

I totaly understand that - I was in desperate need of new rig and I am AMD fanboy - and in time of my rig was being built AM3+ was the only "latest" socket as it is even now. But today new AMD CPU family is near (hopefuly) and unless you really need to go AM3+ (time presure, personal taste)- I would personaly await the new one, or (it hurts saying as AMD fan, but lets be honest here) - go for intel.
