What are DOS commands for restore win xp?

I inadvertenly download some malicious software.

Now my WIN XP is locked up. I can see my desktop but none of the icons work including System Restore. Now there is vertical toolbar to the left of desktop starting with "Folder Tasks" which I don't know how to delete.

I did a complete CHKDSK on C, but after the restart the same condition above exists.

I need to do a restore using RUN but don't know the DOS commands.

Can anyone help me?

There is no dos command that can fix that. I'd suggest trying to backup any important files, then format the drive and reinstall XP.

The problem is resolved.

I went to START/RUN and inserted the word "RESTORE" and Windows took me directly to the WinXP restore menu where I was able to restore to an earlier configuration and eliminate the malicious software.

Odd that you couldn't run system restore from the start menu, but could via search.
