What are storage servers?

Sometimes on the internet i see a couple of tech people who live in the same house and they have a "storage room" where they have a lot of servers?
What are those servers? For what do you use it and what is a server rack?

I have a house server.
Basically, just a central PC that holds a crapload of movies, music. Also, a central space to share other files.
Also, a central locations for backups of data from the other systems.

The word 'server' freaks out a lot of people. People think you need high powered hardware to be 'a server'.
Mine is quite simple. 4GB RAM, G840 CPU, older 6670 GPU. (this is changing soon)
The main thing is that it has a bunch of drive space. 20TB and rising.

Storage servers = A storage room with servers. LOL. Well I guess that would be another interpretation of the term, but no. Storage servers is just a fancy name for a dedicated (or not) cpu box hooked with lots of HD space for others in the network to store files.

what is a server rack?

I will use my layman definition. Server Rack = fancy cabinets to hold storage servers and OTHER related equipment.
