what are the benefits of 16gb ram?

i was thinking of this G.Skill Sniper Gaming Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866
but any benefits for it if i run many things at once (im planning on a 4770 as well dont offer anything else im locked on it)

and yes you will run things faster and it is allways better to have more memory to cache the system and reduce the Disk Access ...

and it is better to use 2x8G so you dont loose up memory slots , say you filled all the 4 slots and needed more in the future , you will have to replace not to ADD.

For normal gaming, you won't see any benefit. I have a machine that I use to run 3-4 virtual machines simultaneously and wish I had 32 GB instead of just 16. You will only see a benefit of that much RAM if you use multiple memory-intensive applications at the same time. Keep in mind that a 32-bit application can generally only access a maximum of 4GB of RAM, so unless you are running 64-bit apps that actually use a lot of RAM or something like SQL server, then 16GB probably won't benefit you much.

That said, it never hurts to have more

Generally 16GB is enough for the average user. Some professionals can use more like 32GB+.

8GB would be more than enough for "the average user" 4GB would be enough for "the average user".

It is complete rubbish to suggest as you do that the average user would require 16GB of ram to have "enough" ram to do what you would need to be doing with your PC to remain an "average" user.
