Question what are the risks of repasting a gpu's thermal paste?

purchased a 2nd hand r9 290x

this thing is old, like old-old

i noticed that it gets hot beyond what is normal for it. for example, apparently its only supposed to get as hot as 81 but it reached 94 when i played a 15-minute game of warzone

i want to know what are the risks of repasting the thermal paste? i read that its easy to break the "bare" die....

i repasted my 560ti a few years ago fine but that was a much small card.... i wonder if its that easy for bigger gpus

Yeah you can do it, but first watch a youtube video on it just in case before unscrewing it.
Be extra careful.
And keep away from carpets or sweaters
