What cable do I need to connect my monitor to my laptop and get 144hz refresh rate? Both of my devices can reach 144hz. My monitor is the older BenQ XL2411. I've tried using a HDMI cable and it was capped at 60hz. My laptop only has a HDMI port and a Thunderbolt port and my monitor has a VGA, DVI and HDMI port.

Did you go into your OS display settings and try manually changing it? Usually the display will not automatically update to 144 and will default at 60 until you update it. Are you using Windows?

If that doesn't work, I'd recommend getting a high speed rated HDMI 2.0 cable
