I have a antec 550w plus psu and I am trying to power my gpu (Gigabyte R9 279X 2GB OC). The gpu has 2x6 pin connectors to power it. I only have one 6+2pin pci-e cable and all the other cables are being used. My power supply has other empty ports that I think I can use? Problem is that my empty ports are all 6 pin too and I can't seem to find a 6pin female to 6pin female cable. Any ideas?

Is this your power supply? Antec BP550 Plus

If it is, then it should have come with one PCI-E 6+2 pin as well as one PCI-E 6-pin. The PCI-E 6-pin could not be used with any other component other than the graphics card. If you do not have this cable, you can try to contact Antec for a replacement cable.

Note: If the above is not your power supply, then it would help if we knew exactly which one you do have.

There is no other 6 pin cable and I no longer have the box. I did find another cable though, correct for the gpu and psu but another problem has risen. The when the new cable is connected to the gpu it the pc doesnt turn on and the power supply cuts out. Possibly the cables fault or psu related?
