what can i do to improve my computer (as cheap as possible)

I recently got this computer given to me for free and am just wondering how much it would cost to make it run faster and be capable of playing some mordenish games, not anything too fancy.

And what i would have to do to get it up to speed.

I'd look at used gear on ebay, some stuff is up for good deals.

I have a similar pc, I installed Kodi on it and turned it into an HTPC. Then for gaming get a refurb from NewEgg.

i had a similar one also. +5600. i beleive its a AGP platform though.

This is a pretty old platform, anything that is an "upgrade" wont matter much in regards to requirements from modern games.
Its like right now you have 10% required performance for modern games, and with upgrades you can get to 15%.

You are looking at a full CPU/Mobo/Memory/GPU upgrade to have anything worthwhile. You will also need windows 10 and likely a new hard drive, probably a better PSU as well.

Thanks alot for all the great advice guys. i do understand i wont be able to play modern games with this machine but just the best upgrade possible for the cheapest price possible.

I really just wanna learn more about computers ans see what is possible from an old computer that was destined for the rubbish tip.

might be a daft question but while i am saving up, would it be possible to buy each part at a time and install them one by one and the comp to still work?

The only one that would actually be compatible would be a graphics card. (if the motherboard has PCIe x16)
