I am looking to upgrade my current system to be able to run three 1440p 27 inch monitors. I currently am leaning towards using the quix q2710. My motherboard will deffinly allow for 2 graphics cards, and my 3.4ghz i7 processed will not bottleneck(I can always overclock). I currently have a amd Radeon HD 7970. My current plan was to add a second, but through looking at diffrenet forums, I saw people say that was not enough. Is this true? Instead, should I sell my current 7970, and by a r290x? Is that enough? Any help would really be appreciated.

I'm curring running a trio of MG279Qs off of 1-2 R9 Fury Xs depending on whether or not the game is crossfire supported.

So far, a single Fury X is capable of running everything I've thrown at it at 7680x1440 smoothly*, with anti aliasing adjusted up or down depending on the title.

*ARK:Survival Evolved doesn't count. That thing wouldn't run smoothly on Quadfire Fury Xs or Quad SLI Titan Xs.

Remember: This is a higher resolution than 4k. A single fury class card is the starting point, followed by a pair of 390Xs, or a pair of Furys.
that would depend on what details you wish to game at, 3x1440p monitors is a lot of horsepower. I dont know what games you wish to play but you are looking at aquiring a 980Ti at minimum, preferably 2x 980Ti's if you wish to get high quality settings (not ultra).

to use in windows or to game with?

I automatically assumed your purpose is gaming, sorry about that. for general multi purpose work a 290x would work, just make sure the ports on the gpu match the monitors. the model you listed has DVI-D and a HDMI port. I don't own a 290x but I know for ex. on my 970 I can't use both DVI ports at once, which would pose a problem in your case.

Thank you guys for the responce. I would like to game on all three. Would 2 290x run a high or ultra settings? I know it's no titan, but it still is a great card. What about the r295×2?

with 2x 290x's you are better off with 3 1080p 60 hz monitors. they will poop on 3 x 1440p's.
