Question What change should I make first ?

I have an AMD Ryzen 1600 CPU and a GTX 1660 Ti 6GB GPU and I want to buy an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X.
Is that a good option with my GPU ?

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

PSU: make, model, wattage, age, condition (original to build, new, used, refurbished)?

Disk drive(s): make, model, capacity, how full?

Listing all your hardware would be a good place to start. If you are on a 3xx chipset motherboard you may or may not have BIOS updates to go that far later (CPU).

On a pure gaming point of view, unless you also upgrade the GPU you are not going to gain much. The 5700x is way more powerful than the 1600, but your 1660ti will hold you back.

For gaming, you'll see little/no difference. Only apps that can take advantage of the additional cores on the 5700X would you see a difference.

Some games can fully utilize the 5700x. Regardless, the extra cores will help handle background windows tasks, while gaming, reducing stutter. I would not recommend a 6c chip in 2025, unless your budget dictated otherwise.

Considering it is the last CPU you are going to be buying for that socket. 5700X or 5700X3D are the best choices.

If you plan on keeping the pc a while and it’s primarily a gaming box, the 5700x3d is probably where you want to be if your board supports it, then upgrade the graphics card.

I agree with the CPU suggestions if you’re going to be using this system for a while yet, but I’d look into what is causing the low fps first.

Could be the GPU because I kind of doubt your CPU is too slow to hold that 1660 back much if at all.

In that case a new GPU would be a better place to start replacing stuff but that would also be reason to look at the PSU because it’s more than 5 years old and newer GPUs use a lot of power.

Anyway try to find out how high the gpu and cpu utilization is in the games you play so you can replace the part that is causing the low fps first.

Zen 1 had latency performance issues, its main selling point was being the first affordable 8-core chip. Upgrading to Zen 3 seems like a good idea regardless.
