I need input on my now 5 year (End of 2009) old PC setup. I know I need to update my motherboard/CPU but I want to go all out and need more funds for that (suggestions are welcome ^_^).

  • ■Only immediate components I know to get is a SSD HD (Eyes on 500GB Samsung 840 EVO)

Here is my current build:

CPU: Intel i7-860 2.8 Ghz (O/C to 3.36)
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 (Bought 2012)
MotherBoard: ASUS P7P55D Deluxe LGA 1156
PSU: Corsair Enthusiast Series 850W
Case: Antec Nine Hundred Two ATX Mid Tower
Memory: 4GB (2x2) Patriot Viper DDR3 1600 +8GB (forgot brand)
Monitor: Asus VE247H 23.6"
HDD: Western Digitial VelociRaptor 150 GB (10,000 RPM) (All bought over time)
Seagate Barracuda 7200 1TB
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB
Western Digital Caviar Green 3TB
Keyboard: Razer Lycosa
Mouse: Steel series Sensei
Headset: Steel Series Siberia V2

  • ■I was initially thinking of buying a 26" 4k monitor but realized I should be getting a SDD or a new keyboard first. As for the speakers I do not really have a great use of speakers and I am satisfied with my headphones.

You need a LOT of (expensive) graphic card power to run 4K eg http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-r9-295x2-crossfire-performance,3808-4.html

The TX is a good PSU. I have the 750W version.

So - maybe look at getting -

i7 4790k ($350)

ASRock Z97 Extreme 6 mobo ($150)

GTX970 ($350)

2 x 4gb 1866 cl9 1.5v ram ($80)

Corsair H100i CPU cooler ($80)

Samsung 850 PRO SSD 120gb ($100) - put your OS on it

Sound OK? (testing your "no particular" budget)

  • ■That is a awesome plan, thanks. I could have that setup next year assuming I do not have car problems/mods like 2014.

When I'm cashed up, I plan to sell my 2 x 670's and get a 970. It then gives me another SLI upgrade path. I figure I can sell 2 x 670's for a good part of the cost of a 970.

The CM hyper 212 evo is a bit light on for any sort of good i7 OC. I'd prefer the Corsair H100i or a Noctua NH D15 (if it fits in the case)
