What cooler should I get for my build?

First up, here's my build:

CPU: AMD FX-8350 (will be overclocking a lot, most likely to 4.8GHz+)
Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 R2.0
RAM: Kingston HyperX FURY 16gb (2x8gb)
GPU: Sapphire R9 280x Tri-X Toxic@1.2/1.6GHz
Case: Cooler Master HAF X
PSU: Corsair HX750

Now, here are my current choices:

• 
  Thermalright HR-22 - has enough heatpipes to cool a GTX 480 passively
  [strike]Thermalright TRUE Spirit 140 POWER/BW[/strike] - told to not get this by Overclock.net
  [strike]CRYORIG R1 Ultimate[/strike] - same as the TS140
  [strike]CRYORIG R1 Universal[/strike] - again, same as the TS140
  Phanteks PH-TC14PE
  Noctua NH-D15
  Noctua NH-D15S
  Silverstone HE01 - recommended by Overclock.net, apparently it's godly for AMD, but not as much for Intel

I would vote for the Noctua NH-D15s. The s variants are high compatibility newer versions that give added clearance to a graphics card installed in the first slot.
They also will clear ram with tall heat spreaders..
The D15 and Phanteks are also good coolers.

Just my opinion, but if this is a new build for gaming, I would not go the overclocked FX route.
The cores are slow and few games can use more than 2-3 threads.
Intel will be a stronger gamer for the price.

Gaming is like my 3rd priority on this machine, which I already own. But for what I do, everything but X99 is a downgrade. I also don't have any plans to get tall RAM because that's not really my thing. I love my Kingston RAM.

If I was advised against the dual-tower and better R1U, is it really a good idea to get the single-tower and worse H5? I'm also done with CRYORIG from now on, the H7 was an okay cooler for a short time, then it just sucked (I used to be able to overclock on it to 4.6GHz, now I can barely reach 4.4).

Personally I'd go with the Phanteks. I have the Phanteks PH-TC12DX, and couldn't be happier. Their fans are made by the same manufacturer as Noctua I am told and I believe it. I've never noticed my cooler noise wise, and my temps under load are very rarely above 70C. I'm sure the PH-TC14PE is even better/quieter with the extra heatsink and 140mm fans vs 120mm.

Yeah, I'm comparing the TC14PE and the HE01 on paper.

Phanteks is $54.99 - $64.99, versus the $80 HE01. The mounting hardware on the TC14PE is bad compared to shit tier, and there are 5x8mm heatpipes. It also comes with amazing thermal paste (godly), and it won't need anything extra, like a molex to PWM adapter (which the HE01 should have). When my friend bought the PH-TC12LS_Bk and shipped it to my house, I opened it up and the packaging was amazing. The packaging from the Silverstone ML08B and 500w SFX-L PSU however, were bleh (packaging means a lot to me, I hoard boxes).

Somebody is giving you bad advice the Cryorig R1 is one of the best air coolers made I own it.

It's kind of a bad value, it's $90 and it's comparable to the $75 NH-D14 (which is also six years old).

First of all, how high one can overclock a processor is primarily determined by luck in getting a well binned chip.
4.8 is possible.
But, remember that the FX-9590 can get 4.7 with 5.0 turbo.
That is from a top binned chip.

On coolers, there is minimal difference in effectiveness among the top coolers.
Your case is a good one which should be able to supply cooling air to any cooler.

You might want to read some reviews of your candidates.
Here is one for the Phanteks which is one of the best tested specifically for AMD processors.

I do have a very nice 8350, too bad I got what I wanted at the time (great multi-core performance, and not really single-core).

The R1 beats the D15 by 4C and the D14 by 8C.
If you can get it clocked thst high on a 970 chipset you will be luckey but your going to need some good cooling.

It's kind of a bad value, it's $90 and it's comparable to the $75 NH-D14
From your own logic when you said the D14 was 15 bucks cheaper now your saying you will spend 12 more bucks to get the extra 1C lower than the R1 but your not wiling to spend the 15 bucks more to get 2C lower than the D14 buying the R1. Using your own link.
