shutup babyens, youd be mad to get a crap AMD in the first place, with there crap slow FSB and there bogus PR rating why would anyone bother... 333 is good on a motherboard, lol,, thats like second rate ass thing. Get an Intel 2.4 with an overclockable 800mhz FSB. AMD are behind the eightball and cheap for one reason only, they are SLOW.

If he doesn't die, he'll get help!!!

Should'nt have said that... the hurting will begin real soon.

You'd be nuts getting a new 1700+ when a 2500+ costs only $81 on pricewatch. Unless your motherboard and memory don't support 333 MHs FSB's, but in that case, you wouldnt have a whole lot of overclocking headroom for a 1700+ either.
Well the 1700+ would be a bit more preferable in my case, since it might run a tad cooler than the 2500+. And prices here where I live are a bit more extreme compared to the US, so the 1700+ could also prove to be a slightly better alternative.

And you're right, my motherboard is only an A7V266, and I don't expect to OC the processor by much, just something slightly faster than stock speeds. I also don't understand your statement above however, I mean isn't the Tbred "B" 1700+ supposed to be an excellent OCable chip, even with the mobo I have?

Because I simply prefer it. I mean Intel processors are good & fine, but I want to stick with what I have for the moment.

I don't have the budget to purchase a new motherboard and an expensive processor at the same time. And even if I did, there would be too many other bottlenecks in my system for it to be not worth it. I don't care much for the FSB either, what matters to me is the end result. Sure, the latest 2.4c processor with a numerically inflated FSB might seen attractive to some, but not to me, at least not right now.

I would like to thank you for your thoughts though, but if I may, I would suggest that you shove it up your ass.

Sorry guys, dug this one up from the grave. Thought it might be interesting to see what a year will do.

Still using my Athlon 1ghz AXIA. 133x10 1.6v.

definately doing the upgrade, gotta love tax time.

Actually got to reading the posts from when I first set up the base of this rig, was 04/01, same mobo and cpu in here. Got the itch to attempt some overclocking.. got her to 155x9.5 at Cas2. Man this thing was a monster back in the day.

Hate to have to put her down.

Cheers!

Duron 1.1 GHz.

It should have been Duron 650 MHz if I didn't crack the core because of pressing to hard on the HSF 6 months ago.

'Rig bellow...

Watercooled Mobile Barton 2500+ @ 2.6GHz (200MHz x 13)
Abit NF7-S V2.0
2x 512MB of Samsung TCC4
Sapphire Radeon 9700 128MB @ 360/310
2x Maxtor 40GB 7200RPM RAID-0

Still using the 1700+, but changed a few things:
changed NB HS to an old Socket A HS I had lying around, so now does 200Mhz stably, and hence running at 200x11, 1.5Vcore. Will do more, but I like the nice low volts  .
Swapped Ti4600 for a 9800Pro.
60Gb HDD blew up, replaced with a 80Gb one, and two extra 80Gb in RAID0.
Added another 512Mb of RAM so now have 1Gb.
Upgraded to XP (was 98SE)

So the CPU I'm using hasn't changed, but almost everything else has to some extent 😱 ... Certainly performs a bit better anyhow.

Oh, and my work PC is no longer the PII 400Mhz... Now it's a P4 2.8C @ 3.25 😎 .. now that's an upgrade!

AthlonXP 2700+, stock speed
DownClock to 1300MHz (100x13) when not doing anything intensive (surfing, hw, typing..) push to full speed when playing game, encoding, compressing data..

Yup, That's the feller.

Great board. I keep getting tempted to get a mobile Barton, but really don't know if it would be worth the cash. I just wanna play with one  !

The NB cooler is just an old Aluminium SoA Cooler, without the Fan. Can't remember the model - think it might have been a GlobalWin CAK-38 or something. I think it used to sit on my old Athlon 800 t-bird. I just Epoxied it on with AS alumina, and it's still happily stuck there after ~1 year.

Pretty sure I could get 2.3Ghz+ out of my 1700+, but need a much better cooler (CPU Cooler is a Volcano 7+ All-copper base, but with the horribly noisy 70mm fan replaced with an 80mm one.). Mine is fine for the nice low volts, but it's still getting up to ~52C under load (Folding), ~1.5V. Does 2Ghz @ 1.4V though, which is pretty nice, IMO.

My current system is an Athalon 1900+, 1GB pc2100. After I finish building this new system I plan on OCing the 1900+ and giving that to my boy for mild gaming. We also still have a PIII 450mhz w/192mb ram laying around that actually still works great for my wife's office work and surfing. I even used that system to run Studio Max 3.1 back in the day and it worked OK. LOL

I can't wait to fire up the new beast though.

Not realy a lie since I actually have all my stuff. I'm still working on some mods though before I crank this up plus I had to order the New CPU cooler since the larger Zalman wouldn't fit. I'm going way out on this PC, even doing Mods to the psu so all my sleeving is color coordinated with the rest of my case and lighting. I figured if I'm spending this much moola that I might just as well spend a bit more and trick the case out too. hahahaha

I'm just jealous really.... Nice setup that'll be when it's up and running..

I would love to build a new system, but I have something that already runs very well really, and I have too much other crap to spend my money on :frown: .

When I've paid off my credit card I'll throw some money into it though. I'm definitely going at least Watercooling on the next rig, with glowing fans/neon/UV reactive Water additive/etc, because like you I think I might as well 'pimp my ride', when I'm spending that much cash  .

YUP! Pimipin'!!! hehehehe

Shameless really but it's mind over matter. I don't mind and it don't matter. ROFL!

I'm using a Silverstone Temjin TJ04(black), Tt 480w purepower w/ all the wires sleeved with uv reactive purple and yellow sleeving and alternating same combo shrink tube ends. 1 uv cold cathode and 1 uv metor lites inside case and 4 120mm Silverstone fans for the case. (These fans are probably the quietest and most air flow producing fans I could find Producing a whopping maximum airflow of 110.03 CFM@39.5db)Obviously I won't need to crank them that high but there will be no lacking for cooling here. One problem with the fans though is they are white so to address that I bought UV reactive paint so they sort of stick with my color theme. Dragon's are the theme so I am modding a round window with this
window and the outer-case fans will have custom grills on them. The right side intake fan and the top blowhole fan will be covered with these grills.

The Zalman CPU cooler and the fan on the Gigabyte 6800GT both have blue LED's as well. Should be ample light. If the blue led are distracting from the UV then I will disable those. I like the UV look.

Many little things going into this that you won't even be able to see also. the Two raptors each have a sleek, attractive Vantec HDD cooler as well.(this is more for cooling than looks obviously. lol)The front of the case is an aluminum bezel and all the face plates will be black. I got a Super Flower Fan Master controller which comes with 6 different colored face plates and boasts 7 different color backlighting for the LCD. This will control my 4 120mm case fans and also monitor 4 different temps for the system.

..and lets not forget the trick little 18 led lights on the Corsair RAM that indicates Memory usage. rofl...
