I'm considering a CPU upgrade but I don't know what CPUs my mainboard supports. How does one learn this information?

Thank you very much! :)

My mainboard: GA-X48-DQ6
My current CPU: Core 2 quad q9300

Well you could just oc, then there really is no speed difference from higher cpus. The performance difference to higher cpus (comparing stock speeds) isn't much but it's also an issue of dumping money into an already obsolete system, by multiple generations at that. You'd also have to think of comparing newer cpus that will outperform it for not much more. $20 maybe a little low but in my area even first gen i7 are down to $50 just for the cpu. Actually you can find them on ebay for that price too.
Look on the mobo website - specs - http://ca.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2763#sp

"Support for an Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme processor/ Intel® Core™ 2 Quad processor/Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor/ Intel® Pentium® processor Extreme Edition/Intel® Pentium® D processor/ Intel® Pentium® 4 processor Extreme Edition/Intel® Pentium® 4 processor/ Intel® Celeron® processor in the LGA 775 package"

First of all, thank you very much! So what you're telling me is that, if it's any more than 20$, then I'm better off getting a new mainboard+CPU because the CPUs available for this board are not powerful enough to make it worth it? :)

That was definitely helpful information! I think I'm going to try to oc it and, when the time comes, I'll probably get a reasonably priced mainboard and cpu :)

Thank you very much!

Thank you very much i7Baby! :)
