What CPU should I have to not limit new gtx 1070/1080?

Hello,

Is i7 6700k enough to keep up with new cards that are gonna be soon released? Some people talks that the CPUs that we have now will bottleneck new cards. Is it true?

Are you kidding me? A 6700k? Please learn about i5 vs i7, and the basic fact that i7 is overkill for gaming. By the way, the Zen and Kaby Lake CPUs are coming out late this year, the 1070 and 1080 are coming out in a month. Plus, Kaby Lake won't be a huge improvement over Skylake, it's the same architecture, it's just gonna be a lot more pricey. As for Zen, I'm not expecting much at all from Zen.

OP, the 6700k will cost you about 100 dollars more than the 6600k, just so you can get hyper threading, which is useless in modern games. The 6600k will perform the same in games for 100 dollars less.

The 4590 will be great. Remember though, you can't overclock it. If I were you, I'd turn on the turbo boost for best performance.

i think a 4690k would be better as we recently heard that the x70 will be near titan x performance so for a x70 its ok but then there is the question how fast will the x80 be?

Whether something is a limitation or not solely depends on an individual game. We should not be classifying and generalizing all games because how they are programmed and the CPU intensity varies from game to game.

Honestly I just don't believe that they can make a graphics card under 400 dollars that can perform better than a 1,000 dollar one

That's very true. The Titan X does have more CUDAs though. Either way they're all virtual reality ready, I think that was the goal of the 10xx series

I advised you to get a i7 6700k if you haven't bought a cpu yet.

Even that cpu has some minor bottlenecks, because the gtx 1070 is equavalent to that of a maxwell titan x, you should hold out with your cpu until the end of the year as it is enough for satisfactory gameplay, then buy an on par kay lake processor, or better yet buy the cheap skylake processors xD

every cpu will have a bottleneck as there is no perfect setup but really tell me what the **** are you talking about a 4690k can handle two 1070s with only a light bottleneck in some games you issue is something else aside from a bottleneck
please if you are unsure what the issue is start a new thread

My 3570k @4.2ghz definitely bottlenecks my GTX 1070 SC in Battlefield 4, playing at 1080p 120hz. I get lots of frame fluctuations between 90-120fps, and when I go check the CPU usage in MSI Afterburner, guess what, all 4 cores topped 100% during a 64-player match, while the GPU stays at 70, 80% all the time.

Problem is, the same thing will happen with a 6600 or an i7 6700k. So, I think we finally reached a moment where CPUs will need to step up their game, at least for 144hz players.

Would a skylake i5 6400 bottleneck a GTX 1080? I have seen machines by pc specialist with this combo.

Really depends on game too, a lot of mmos are very heavily cpu dependant.

If I walk through a major city on WoW with my 5820k and 1080 I'll see maybe 70-100fps. I'll see pretty much the same with a 5820k and a 1060.

Throw a better cpu in and you will see better frames than the 1080 desktop.

The i5 6600k is an awesome choice. Almost the same gaming performance as the 6700k without the additional cost of those "threads".

As it stands, the most powerful gaming CPU on the market is the 4790k with a single-thread performance that tops the 6700k by 15% (Source: Passmark single-thread chart)

I would agree that CPU's cannot keep up in frames when calculating physics with a GPU. Ultimately, the 6700k will bottle-neck you. I've seen this on my best buds setup that is a 6700k@4.6Ghz and a Pascal Titan. His frames dropped in H1Z1 with high quality settings. So very sad to see.

I am using an i7 4790k not overclocked...I just bought an MSI 1070 and now I'm worried that my CPU will bottleneck my GPU. If I am getting 100% CPU usage and GPU usage is anything less than 100, then that is bottlenecking right?
