So I’ll keep this really Quick.

I have two CPUs to choose from for this build I have.

First One: Ryzen 9 3900x

Second One: Ryzen 7 5800x3d

Here is the specs

RX 7900xtx
CPU-Will be one of these
MPG B550 Gaming Plus
1000wat PSU ASUS
32GB RAM DDR4 3200

I know this question might sound dumb but I had a employee at microcenter try to tell me the Ryzen 7 is better then the Ryzen 9. I have both of these CPUs currently just want to know which one you guys think I should use, I thought the obvious answer was to use the Ryzen 9 but unsure now after hearing that. I use this build for strictly gaming and light video edit/render and recording for OBS.

If anyone could help me I’d greatly appreciate it!

i might just do that. So does the X3d do something that the 9 can’t do?

Gaming. For this CPU, AMD stacked cache layers on top of each other, and it proved to be a significant benefit to gaming workloads. Now, that's not to say that Ryzen 9s don't game very well, of course -- I certainly wouldn't use one if they didn't -- but the 5800x3D wrung out some additional gaming performance in this manner despite fewer cores and lower clocks.

For my use case, having more cores was more important than a few extra frames in games as my various home computers *are* my work computers and I do a lot of work with large datasets. But if you're only doing light editing, the extra frames may be more valuable to you, which is why the 5800x3D is recommended strongly here.

First of all Zen 3 is a fairly significant upgrade over Zen 2 so clock for clock the cores are around 20% faster. So while it doesn't quite clock as high and only has 2/3 the cores it's going to be at most about 15% slower. When it comes to gaming the 3dvcache is an absolutely massive advantage depending on title and how GPU bound you are. No matter what it will never be slower at gaming, and could be 50%+ faster in some titles.

Question is why do you think just the ryzen 9 is better than ryzen 7.

If you had asked about the newer 5900x then it would be a harder question. The 3900x is 2 years older technology and even the 5800x....ie not the x3d one is still better for most things. The x3d processors have a huge advantage in many games.
