What CPU to buy?

Im trying to upgrade my old pc for really cheap so i can play some games with better fps,and i found a Athlon II X3 450 and Phenom X4 9550 and now im not sure which to buy.If i were to buy the Athlon i would probably OC it to unlock the fourth core and increase the speed.
Which one should i get they are both around the same price in my country so money isnt really a big factor i only care about performance in games.

the phenom has an extra core that is guaranteed to work and a larger L3 cache than the athlon.
you do realize they have different sockets? will you buy the motherboard after the CPU decision?

if your upgrading the current PC you have, are you simply upgrading the Cpu ? then the question you ask is confusion as they are both different socket type (and will require different motherboards to work on) if your upgrading your motherboard then please provide make and model of the motherboard.

Yes i know they are diffrent motherboards i have a spare motherboard that i can use for the 9550 but it has suddenly died without any reason so i cant buy the Phenom,I have a old PC from 2010 and i have DDR2 ram,So i am trying to upgared my pc for little money just so i can play some games that dont need very demanding parts,and i have looked more and i found a perfect CPU the Phenom II X3 720 which i will overclock so i can the most out of it.Thank you for answers
