What cpu to pair with 1070?

Hey, so i recently got a gtx 1070 to beef up my rig abit. Now realized that my frankly terrible 8320e and failing ram need to be upgraded too. What could you recommend to pair with the 1070 to best utilize it in titles such as upcoming battlefield 1 and doom? I'm looking to spend about £250-£350 / $330-$460 on a cpu, mobo and ram. Thanks in advance to any recommendations. Ow yea and i was thinking something like a 3960x or 6600k? 3960x with a greater quantity of better ram. Or the 6600k with less ram at lower speeds.

Will be enough. 350 pound is your limit but if you can get 6500. Will be more than enough for future games.

Go for skylake. 3960x is on ancient platform (2011). You could still consider haswell or haswell-e, but sandy bridge is just too old...

I know it just has great price to performance. Seing as i can get it for £150

The problem with older CPUs is that their motherboards are outrageously expensive, at least in the 'states.

Honestly, an i5 6500 is a good all-around chip for gaming even with an unlimited budget, but I would not pair it with an expensive Z170 board if you're trying to keep costs down. It will work just as well on an H110 or H170 board. An i7 6700 would probably last a bit longer, but the i5 is already going to last you a good long time.
