Hey, all. I'm working into a new build in baby steps. I have a friend who is selling me his 1080ti for cheap, and I plan on buying a 1440p/144hz monitor around Christmas time. I'm going to build a new PC next year, and I've been reading alot/watching reviews on Ryzen vs Intel. Most of my PC parts are about 3 yrs old (i5-6600k) and my PC has been plugging along fairly well. My first build (15 years ago) was an AMD, but I've been Intel ever since.

I know once I throw the 1080ti into her, she's going to be majorly bottlenecked, even with a monitor that will run 144hz.

What direction do you recommend for budget ($500-800), but keeping the machine running that 1080ti in the 440p 144hz range. I'm looking between the Ryzen 5 2600k, Ryzen 7 2700X, and the Intel 9400 and 9600k.

I don't plan on overclocking (change my mind), and I'm an eclectic gamer - Anything Bethesda, Stardew Valley, AC: Odyssey, Apex Legends, Frostpunk...

Solution
your 6600k should actually not be that much of a bottleneck

it might tank your minimum performance but I doubt the difference between it and a i9 9900k will be larger than 15% or so. also if you have a z170 or z270 board, you should overclock to save yourself the money and maybe get a nicer ssd or more ram or smthn

but, if you ask me, amd 3rd gen all the way.
a b450 board for sub 100$ and a ryzen 3600 or 3600X for around 250$ish

im team blue and I recommend amd nowadays.
a ryzen 2nd gen will lose some gaming performance, while a ryzen 5 3rd gen will gain.
