what cpu would be good for gaming on an am3 board

I am looking for a new CPU for gaming on an am3 board the people I am upgrading this PC for are not playing the newest games but they want an upgrade for what they have, currently they have a 2 core 2.6 GHz CPU for am3 I want to upgrade this to at least a 4 core at 3 GHz or higher because I think their CPU is bottlenecking the gtx 630 they have. Their budget is $100

They want to play games like Fallout New Vegas, dishonored, spec ops the line, south park stick of truth and a more CPU intense game like hearts of iron 3

AM3 CPUs are no longer manufactured. You could probably use a Phenom II x4. They are available on eBay.

The best I could find for am3 is the Phenom II 720 BE and it doesn't exactly fit your description but is the closest I could find.

FX 4300 is just good for you for such upgrade - I have it and I can swore on it. But - consider waiting for a while, increasing the budget and either wait for Zen, or (i know, its heresy, but... ) think about the intel. Yes, you would need deeper upgrade, but you would get more power for a buck.
